1100plus communities vie for Google network

WASHINGTON - More than 1,100 communities have approached Google in hopes of alighting one of the ultra-fast broadband networks that the association plans to set up in a handful of spots around the country.

Last month, Google pronounced it will set up initial fiber-optic networks that will broach Internet connectors of 1 gigabit per second to as majority as 500,000 Americans. That would be up to 300 times faster than the broadband services reaching majority U.S. homes today.

Friday noted the deadline for governments and adults to demonstrate interest.

Google pronounced the reply has been "tremendous and creative," with communities utilizing all from YouTube videos to Facebook groups to open rallies to foster themselves. The association will make known winners by the finish of the year.
